BlackBerry Mini keyboard unveiled for PlayBook

THESTAR.COM

Research in Motion officially unveiled a new physical keyboard for the BlackBerry PlayBook Tuesday, confirming that the BlackBerry Mini Keyboard will hit the market March 23, and that Canadians will get a bit of a price break. In Canada, the keyboard will be available only at the website of electronics retailer The Source. It will initially be priced at $99.99, but goes up to $119.99 after April 11. International buyers can order it at BlackBerry’s own online store, for $119.99 (U.S.). The Source scooped the official RIM announcement earlier this week when it started taking pre-orders for the new keyboard.

The Bluetooth-enabled keyboard also comes with a carrying case that serves as a stand, meaning the PlayBook can effectively function as an ultra-light laptop. Other laptop-like features in the keyboard are a touchpad, which lets you tap it twice for a right click or a single tap for a “mouse” click. At less than six millimeters thick, it’s also pretty compact. Another feature aimed at business users is that the new keyboard is designed to work with an app for Citrix, which allows remote access to corporate networks.
